We explain how heat damages your hair and what to do to restore its natural shine

How does summer sun damage your hair?

Summer brings with it continuous exposure to UV rays, salt water, pool chlorine, heat, wind and humidity.

  • UVA and UVB rays first impact your hair’s outermost layer, breaking the bonds between the scales that seal it and changing its texture and appearance.
  • The sun then oxidizes the capillary fibres and alters the cysteine (a keratin amino acid), causing the ends to split and the melanin to lighten.
  • Summer‘s aggressive external agents also upset our hair's natural balance. Our locks become dehydrated, discoloured and less flexible and look rougher, brittle and lacklustre.

Post-summer hair repair tips

 Trim

A post-summer trim is always a good idea as it boosts the effectiveness of all the subsequent repair treatments.

Moisturization

Even if we’ve protected it, our hair will still need moisturizing.

nutre el cabello despues del veranoGive it some deep nourishment with premium-quality hair hydration products like our E-line Repair Shampoothat contains oil complex to revitalize damaged hair. Its formula is free of parabens, sulphates and silicones so there’s no danger of suffering sensitive or itchy scalp.

To restore your hair’s shine and leave it super-smooth, combine this shampoo with our E-Line Repair Mask. Apply the mask to washed, towel-dry hair to see a noticeable improvement in just 1 minute. For maximum effect, finish the treatment with our non-oily E-Line @22 no-rinse emulsion.

Drying and brushing

First, choose a suitable brush. It should be one that easily brushes out the knots, doesn't damage the capillary fibre and prevents static build-up.

Whenever possible, allow your hair to air-dry to minimize dryer use. And be gentle with the towel — no scrubbing!

If you do need to use a dryer or straighteners, put them on the lowest setting and use heat protection.

Balanced diet

A few simple changes to your lifestyle can make all the difference to hair condition. Nutrient absorption is crucial to keeping your tresses strong, thick and healthy.

Avocado contains essential fatty acids and antioxidants, as well as a host of vitamins, all of which strengthen your hair. It also helps nourish your scalp.

Spinach contains iron and zinc, so include it in your diet any way you like to repair sun-damaged hair from the inside out.

Carrots are a source of vitamin A and C and likewise possess hydrating properties, meaning eating plenty of them will boost hair growth.

Also include food rich in Omega-3 (like oily fish) in your diet as this healthy fat strengthens your hair’s roots and reduces follicle inflammation.

Chicken breast is rich in amino acids that will help to prevent hair splitting and loss.

Add these tips to your daily routine to nurture your hair both inside and out — you’ll soon notice the difference.
